A Message from the
Spirit of Women Hospital Network

You may be asking why another heart health education initiative targeted to women? Indeed our national awareness of heart disease as the leading killer of women is successfully on the rise. However, with one in two women losing their lives to heart disease and from the perspective of a network of concerned American hospitals, we are NOT seeing a significant increase in the numbers of women seeking risk assessments and diagnostic tests to prevent death and disability from cardiovascular disease.

Therefore, HeartCaring, a program of the Spirit of Women Hospital Network with educational support from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, has been launched as an initiative to MOTIVATE WOMEN TO TAKE ACTION TO PROTECT THEIR HEARTS.

We want women to seek out their healthcare providers, especially those committed to a gender specific approach to heart disease, and to discuss their concerns, their lifestyles, and risk factors. We want to make these important conversations easier and more convenient for women who are frequently far too busy caring for family, career, and community to focus on their own health.

HeartCaring is a physician-based outreach initiative that will drive women at risk for death and disability from cardiovascular disease into actual CARE.

We are proud of the intent of HeartCaring and look forward to sharing many success stories with women, healthcare providers, and hospitals through this website.

Please share your perspective and experiences with women and heart disease at any time by e-mailing us at mfleck@spiritofwomen.com.
